Korian and the Korian Foundation support the Foundation for Medical Research (FRM)
The Korian Foundation for Ageing Well has signed two sponsorship agreements with the Foundation for Medical Research (FRM) to support two research projects to fight against Covid-19 and a fundamental research project to better understand and diagnose Alzheimer's disease.
Two research projects to fight Covid-19
ANTI-CoV : to identify effective antiviral molecules for the management of the disease
The objective of this project is to identify molecules that are effective against the SARS- CoV-2 virus from among antiviral components that have had or have marketing authorisation for the treatment of pathologies other than respiratory viral infections and thus reposition the molecules that show the highest antiviral activity against the SARS- CoV-2 virus. The project is led by Jean Dubuisson, Centre for Infection and Immunity of the Pasteur Institute of Lille.
Coriplasm & Seroprevalence studies: to test the effectiveness of administering plasma from patients cured of Covid-19 to hospitalised patients
This plasma could confer immunity to hospitalised patients with a mild to moderate expression of Covid-19 and help them to fight against this virus. The project is led by Pr Karine Lacombe (AP-HP St Antoine, Sorbonne University, Paris) and Pr Pierre Tiberghien (Etablissement Français du Sang, La Plaine St Denis/ UMR1098 INSERM/ Université de Franche Comté).
A fundamental research project to better understand and diagnose Alzheimer's disease
Towards the development of new biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease
The teams led by Elsa Suberbielle, Nicolas Blanchard and Nicolas Fazilleau, at the Toulouse-Purpan Physiopathology Centre are looking for new Alzheimer's disease biomarkers in order to take action well before the onset of the symptoms of the disease. The researchers believe that inflammatory phenomena and infections by pathogens are elements that could modulate the course of this neuro-degeneration. The molecular characteristics of white blood cells could therefore be used as biomarkers to predict cognitive decline in patients.
"The Korian Foundation was already very active in the field of clinical research, but this is the first time that, thanks to the partnership with the Foundation for Medical Research, we can support fundamental research projects conducted by leading, internationally- recognised researchers. Through this action, Korian wishes to contribute to the discovery of treatments to treat or prevent two diseases that are particularly threatening for the elderly, Covid-19 and Alzheimer's disease" says Sophie Boissard, Managing Director of Korian and President of the Korian Foundation.
